Crazy Graffiti Love

Feb 12

Like any holiday, Tuesday may be a conflicting mix of emotions for you, but whether or not you have a significant other, I hope you can know the love of the MOST significant other.  My prayer for this Valentine’s Day is to appreciate the love that I’ve been given, across the board–love from my wonderful wife, love from my joyful son, love from my precious family and friends, but most importantly, above all else, I pray for just another glimpse at the incomprehensible love of God for me.

Not long ago, this unexpected sight greeted me on the broken sidewalk right outside our home.  Occasionally local kids walking home from school will obnoxiously write some graffiti on our fence, but this time, someone anonymously left this simple declaration for us (and many other spots throughout the neighborhood too), some “love graffiti”.  Perhaps most striking, the word “love” is written right on top of that big crack in the cement–such a profoundly relatable metaphor to us all.

After going to Passion at the beginning of January, I read aloud Francis Chan’s book “Crazy Love” to Katherine–another simple declaration that belies such a profound message.  I was so touched, I even used the first chapter to begin the year for my men’s Bible study.  This chapter reminds us of the mighty and beautiful attributes of God and calls us to stand in awe of Him and the fact that He loves and cares about us.

It is sobering to realize that this is the
same God who is holy and eternal, the Maker of the billions of galaxies
and thousands of tree species in the rainforest. This is the God who
takes the time to know all the little details about each of us. He does not
have to know us so well, but He chooses to.”

Whether out at a fancy dinner with your mate tomorrow or sharing a box of chocolates with yourself, know that this day focused on love is but a reminder of what every day is and can be in the love of God.
